Things I forgot about newborns...

That they are sooooo tiny.
Grunting, squeaking, and little sighs...
They can sleep through anything, even a crazy toddler squishing them with love and LOUDness.
Eating takes a looooong time,
and then they poop,
and then it's time to eat again.
That I really prefer to sleep all night without waking up, even if he is cute.
The car seat is gigantic.
How I love to touch their soft skin and hair, and tiny fingers and toes.
And how sweet and innocent they are.

The Mommy Survey

I copied this from Andrea's blog. It looked like fun, and since I'm about to go through another delivery, it was enjoyable to think back about some of the details. It's kind of long, and possibly really boring- consider yourself warned- So here we go:)

1. Age(s)? 23 months

2. Name(s)? Naomi Natalie

3. Birthday(s)? 2/15/06

4. Time(s) of birth? 7:58 p.m.

5. How long did labor last? 10 hours, give or take. I was induced that morning, I think they started the pit at about 10 or 11.

6. Who was in the room when baby was born? Zach, my doctor and 2-3 nurses.

7. How long did you push? about 1/2 hour, about 5 sets of 3, I was super surprised how fast that part went. My nurse made me stop pushing and wait for my doctor to get there. She did, but JUST in time:) My doctor walked in and said, "Oh, you're crowning!"

8. Weight? 6 lb, 8 oz

9. Length? 19

10. Any hair? Not really, she had a little fuzz that promptly fell out over the next few weeks.

11. Who does baby look like? Most everyone thinks she looks like Zach but she does have some features like me- she looks like my baby pictures right now.

12. Be honest...how much weight did you gain while pregnant? I gained 32 lbs, or could have been 33? I think I'm well on my way to breaking that record with this pregnancy....

13. Was the baby early or late? 5 days early.

14. Who drove you home from the hospital? Zach

15. How many baby showers did you have? 5, (blush). My mom and sisters threw one for our side of the family and neighbors, same with Zach's mom and sisters. My good friend Sarah threw a friends shower with all the girls. The ladies in my ward did a neighborhood shower and the girls I worked with threw me one too!

16. When did baby start sleeping through the night? 6 months. 6 looooong months. She finally slept all night when we said goodbye to the binky.

17. Did you breastfeed? Yes- for about a year.

18. Who takes care of your baby/kids the most? I do. But Zach is soooo Super Dad when he's home!

19. When do you want to have another one? Preferably BEFORE March 17th:)

20. How did you pick the name(s)? Some friends of ours had a little Naomi when we were first married and I fell in love with the name, then a few years later as we were trying to pick a name I got a 'Naomi' in the temple and it just stuck in my head. I love her name.

21. How did you know when it was time to go to the hospital? I called bright and early to see if I could come in (for my scheduled induction) and they said call back in a few hours, we had a REALLY busy night (it was Valentines the day before:) So then we waited and called back, got the go ahead and drove on over. I have no idea what I'm going to do this time! I have to start labor on my own and then get there at the right time. Hopefully It'll be a no-brainer!

22. Anyone spend the night with you the first night home? Just Zach! Naomi had to stay an extra night in the NICU, she was being screened for an infection, she got a rough start for some reason. She ended up with no infections and came home the next morning.

23. Did you cry the first time you held your baby? No, the first thing out of my mouth was "She's so BLUE!" She pinked up quickly though.

24. Where was the baby born? Logan, UT

25. Did you video tape the birth? No. In fact, Zach dropped the video camera during labor sometime and the battery pack broke off! He was so depressed but it was all a little comical to me:) He could use the camera if it was plugged in to an outlet. We didn't plan on taping the birth anyway- we got some footage of me hanging out in bed and then of our little pink baby girl.

Well, did you guess correctly?

I had my "big" ultrasound this morning. We dropped Naomi off at a friends house and Zach and I went to the Community Radiology place to have my ultrasound. The tech took pictures and measurements of the babies head/brain, spine, arms, legs, stomach, liver, kidneys, bladder, heart, heart beat.
After a while she said, "do you want to know what you are having?"
We said yes and she showed us his stuff.
That's right, it's a boy!
I was surprised really but there was no mistaking if this little baby is actually a boy or not:)
I've been in a "girl" mode so it's taking my mind a minute to get accustomed to being able to do both 'modes.' So there you have it, it's a boy!
It still seems surreal that I'm actually having another baby, but to see him there on the ultrasound screen was really exciting.
I need to go shopping for boy clothes now! I have boxes and boxes of baby-Naomi's age girly clothes and shoes but I'm going to start all over now:)
I'm open to name suggestions:) We have a few in mind but nothings set in stone just yet.

Baby #2 and my Nominomi

Naomi in the hospital
The hospital picture
Bundled up in her Bear suit. So cute!
Smiling for Mommy!

My little BUG!

These are pictures of Naomi as a little tiny baby! I finally loaded them all onto this computer the other day and I had so much fun looking through all of them again. She's less than 7 weeks in all these photos.

She was such a bright eyed little bug from pretty much the day we brought her home. She's been a little excited ever since!

I'm just feeling lots of different feelings as this pregnancy progresses and I seem to remember quite clearly how much Naomi cried those first two months! But looking at the pictures reminded me that she had a lot of good moments too. I'm wondering how different this baby will be, or how much the same. Also I'm thinking about how I'm different. I have different expectations (lower:), they are more realistic and I hope I'll feel a little more relaxed about everything. I'm thinking that I'll have to, I'll have Naomi too.

So. Just a few pictures of those first sleepless, stressful, crazy and totally amazing two months.

So maybe YOU had a big baby?

I think not. At least not compared to the story I read today about baby Nadia.
She weighed in at a good solid 17.1 lbs.
No joke.
This was the mom's 12th child but still, WOW! I couldn't believe it when I saw this picture. I mean this baby weighs as much as a 6 or 7 month old! The family lives in Russia and the mom said she ate normal things while she was pregnant like noodles, potatoes and tomatoes. Also she said that her other children have all been big babies but not like this.
And the kicker is that she had her C-section so for a while she's not supposed to lift "anything heavier than the baby." Right.
And it looks like this little one made the Guinness Book of World Records.

The probably normal sized infant to the right looks like a tiny little preemie next to Nadia.

I'm still in shock, I can't imagine how huge this mom must have been that last month or so. Naomi was only 6 lbs 8 oz and I felt HUGE.

So there's your shocker for the day!

Guess What?

Well, Naomi seems to be on the mend. Good thing:) She was kind of sick today but don't tell her that! I fed her strictly the BRAT diet today and I think it's working if you know what I mean. It stands for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. And the greener the banana the better.

But on a fun note we got some new boots for Naomi and leg warmers!!! I wasn't totally sold on the boots but Naomi LOVED them. Plus, we need rain boots, her snow boots leak water if she steps in a puddle. Which she does whenever she can.

Funny thing though, she wouldn't let me put the leg warmers on her unless I put the boots on too.

Nice combination. Maybe she'll set a new trend. You know, kitty boots and pink sparkly leg warmers paired with little white shorts and a pink kitty T.

Oh man. The dressing herself has started.

So here is a picture of my little fashionista!

Ok. so on to the Guess What.

I was trying to wait until a little later to tell the news or until I saw a doctor, but I finally got a doctor appointment and it's not until October so I figured what the heck.
I'm Going To Have A BABY!!!
I'm due April 2, 2008
I am currently 10 weeks pregnant. And I am very sick. It's horrible:)
I did see my doctor in Utah the day before I left and she did an ultrasound, confirmed the pregnancy but all you could see was the sac because I was only a few weeks along.
I swear I'm a cow already though now. My sister Aimee who was just here says she didn't notice at all but I have noticed. I totally have a gut. Maybe if I'm lucky by next summer I won't have one again....
So that's the big news! I'll be sure to post an update when we find out if it's a girl or boy.
Oh, and Zach is very, very excited of course. He was the crazy one who said after Naomi that he wanted about 11 kids. Crazy.
